Danielle Lee Art
Danielle Heilweil's passion for printmaking had unusual beginnings. As a child she had been attracted to anything related to art, but growing older her attention turned to the human mind, and she began to develop a deep interest in psychology. Her curiousity soon lead her to the field of art therapy, which was the perfect blend of her two passions.
After completing her Master’s Degree, Danielle became a licensed professional counselor and a professional board-certified art therapist, but still had no experience as a printmaker. She continued to fuel her love for art with periods of drawing, wood-burning, painting, ceramics, embroidery, collages and mosaics but would soon get bored and move onto the next art phase.
Then, one Sunday in 2018, 29-year-old Danielle's art journey took an unexpected trip down memory lane. Out of the blue, she had a sudden flashback to a childhood lesson on printmaking. Unable to resist the sudden surge of inspiration, Danielle rushed to the nearest art store and purchased all of the starter tools she could recall from her fleeting memory of that high school class.
The Art of Printmaking
Returning home, she carved her first block and a new passion was born. Every print she crafted deepened her love for the art.
Today, printmaking for Danielle is more than just art; it’s a therapeutic process. She couldn't imagine a world without it.
Working from her Montclair, NJ studio, she begins by sketching an image onto tracing paper. Next, she transfers it to a rubber block, and carefully carves out her design. Every gentle cut into the rubber brings a soothing focus and the world gently fades away. Ink is then applied, and the carved block is used to create the print.
Each piece Danielle crafts has its own unique variations, standing as an individual artwork that tells the story of its creation. This dynamic, present in all of her work, makes every print profoundly personal.
We invite you to explore Danielle Lee Heilweil’s printmaking collection, and witness the intricate beauty of her art that captures both her passion and her perseverance.
